Who we are
The West Australian Kendo Renmei (Inc), the WAKR, is the West Australian branch of the Australian Kendo Renmei, which in turn is the Australian branch of the International Kendo Federation (FIK). The FIK guides the growth of kendo worldwide and keeps a consistent "style" - something rare among martial arts.
The WAKR was founded by Ramon Lawrence and Michael Parsonage in 1986, with training officially beginning on 21 September, and was incorporated on 14 March 1989. Like other well-run sporting bodies, its officers are elected each year at the AGM, and the committee includes a delegate from every club with more than ten members. Clubs run independently and work together through the WAKR.
